Obuasi, Ghana – October 11, 2023 – Women in Mining Ghana (WIM Ghana) marked the International Day of the Girl Child with the launch of its Junior Chapter at Leap School in Obuasi.
This initiative is designed to empower young girls and inspire future female leaders in the mining industry.
The event, held on October 11, 2023, gathered students, educators, and industry professionals to discuss gender equality and the role of women in mining.
The 2024 International Day of the Girl Child theme, “Girl’s Vision for the Future,” underscores the importance of listening to girls’ voices and supporting their aspirations for a brighter future.
Despite facing challenges such as climate change, poverty, and human rights violations, girls around the world demonstrate remarkable resilience and hope. This theme highlights the urgent need to address barriers like limited access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, as well as discriminatory practices and violence.
WIM Ghana’s Junior Chapter aims to provide young girls with resources, mentorship, and hands-on experiences in the mining sector. The program includes workshops, educational sessions, and field trips to local mining sites, fostering a supportive community that encourages girls to explore their interests and ambitions in mining and beyond.
“We believe that empowering girls today means investing in a brighter tomorrow for the entire industry,” WIM noted.
Adding that “Together, we can break down barriers and create a more inclusive environment for all.”
Women in Mining Ghana invites everyone to join this vital movement to empower young girls and ensure they have access to the resources they need to succeed. Together, we can build a future where every girl has the opportunity to thrive.
