Accra, Ghana – The National Apprenticeship Program, a flagship initiative of the Ghanaian government, has officially begun distributing equipment to beneficiaries in the Greater Accra region. The program aims to equip 100,000 young Ghanaians with practical, employable skills annually by 2026.
Osman Ayariga, CEO of the National Youth Authority, emphasized that the program is a crucial investment in Ghana’s human capital, bridging the gap between education and employment. “The program is designed to provide our youth with the skills needed to succeed in the job market,” he said. “We are committed to ensuring that our young people have access to the training and resources they need to become productive members of society.”
Beneficiaries will receive tools such as sewing machines, dryers, and safety equipment to support their training in various trades, including tailoring, carpentry, electrical work, and beauty services. The program is expected to benefit thousands of young Ghanaians, providing them with the skills and knowledge needed to start their own businesses or secure employment in their chosen field.
Ayariga assured that delays in payments to Master Craft Persons and apprentices would be resolved soon, citing a validation process underway to ensure transparency and accountability. The program prioritizes marginalized groups, including persons with disabilities and those in informal unions.
The program is part of a broader strategy to promote technical and vocational training, support local industries, and create long-term employment opportunities for young people nationwide. With a GH¢300 million allocation in the 2025 budget, the program is expected to have a significant impact on Ghana’s youth unemployment rate.
